Indonesia hosts 13th International Robot Olympiad
The 13th International Robot Olympiad is being hosted in Indonesia at University Tarumanegara. Participants attend the three-day event from 13 different countries and will showcase around 1,000 robots.
Participants from the various countries attending the event have designed robots that will compete in 14 different categories, spread over four age groups. Examples of some of the categories include such events as robot dancing, robot survival and energy saving robot.
Such events give an opportunity to students and young adults to learn basic and intermediate knowledge relating to computer programming and computer design.
There are also more serious topics that are being explored at the event by mature students, in the 19 and over age bracket. The theme of this years’ Robot Olympiad is “robots for helping people in natural disasters.” A pertinent topic given that the country is located on the pacific ring of fire, a region characterized by earthquakes and volcanic activity.
In addition to the competitions there are also a series of seminars held on issues related to robotics. This gives students a chance to see how robotics is being applied in real world situations and developments in the field of robotics.
